Overview


John W. Lowe serves as an international arbitrator and mediator. Based in Paris and New York, he has served as tribunal chairman, member of arbitral tribunals and sole arbitrator in both ad hoc and institutional arbitrations in Europe and the US. Working as an arbitrator has been the result of a career evolution which began with him serving as a US diplomat in Mexico, Washington and Italy. This was followed by years of international legal activity as General Counsel, in-house counsel and as an attorney based in Europe and the US. To his arbitration and mediation work, Mr. Lowe brings a wealth of experience having handled major transactions and disputes around the world. Mr. Lowe has significant arbitration and legal experience in many practice areas including infrastructure projects, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, technology, commercial contracts, defense, and aerospace, maritime and insurance.

While Mr. Lowe is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia and Ohio in the US, he also has significant expertise in other common law jurisdictions including England where he managed legal affairs for several companies as well as Singapore and Australia. Mr. Lowe has worked extensively in civil law jurisdictions including France, Italy, Belgium, and Germany and has a thorough understanding of these legal systems.

Mr. Lowe is listed as an arbitrator on the panels of many leading arbitration institutions including the American Arbitration Association’s National Roster of Arbitrators, the ICDR International Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators, the International Institute for Conflict and Dispute Prevention (CPR), Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators where he is an approved faculty member teaching the full panoply of CIArb arbitration courses. Mr. Lowe has been a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR (US Committee) since 2018 and he is a Supporting Member of the London Martime Arbitration Association (LMAA).

To his arbitration work, Mr. Lowe brings an approach that is heavily influenced by his years of working as a General Counsel. He recognizes that the purpose of arbitration is the production of a just award based on the applicable law and facts. He is committed to administering arbitration in a fair and expeditious manner and ensuring that justice is served in a timely and cost-effective manner.
